Our philosophy in design has sprung from a base level on the need for simplicity which has been honed through the delivery of projects in remote locations. By drawing inspiration from nature, we pride ourselves on practical designs and material selections with pleasing results. Weathering and longevity of buildings, particularly remotely, is an area where we specialise with the aim that designs will meet their intended life span and have minimum maintenance as this occurs.
All projects are designed with safety as a premium consideration for the occupants, visitors and operations.
Bennett Architecture started in 1994 as Bennett Design, a small practice in Darwin, in what was a ‘boom or bust’ time, surviving on whatever projects in which we could assist.
We found the breathtaking width of project variety that the Territory offers, a local advantage. We have designed the Birthing Suite at Royal Darwin Hospital, the mortuary and everything in between. This diverse range of projects gave us the experience, then capability and confidence to step further from conservative safety and allowed us to grow further.
Today, Bennett Architecture has over twenty staff with a head office in Darwin and offices in Melbourne, Adelaide, Cairns and northern NSW. Now a national firm, we have evolved into a company that can deliver a diversity of projects in different locations while still being small enough to understand what it means to be local.
“I had the honour of launching the wonderful greenhouse residence at Darla Place, Darla, Palmerston. I am generally cynical about house design in the Northern Territory, but here was a house where maximum attention had been paid to the necessary detail for effective indoor / outdoor tropical living. Wonderful overall, spacious, great use of air-flow and solar light. Daring colours, very thoughtful separation of functions. Congratulations to the originators, Bennett Design.”
Ted Egan, Administrator of the Northern Territory
”Catholic Education NT were delighted to work with an excellent consortium comprising Bennett Architecture, Rossi Architects (NT) and Walter Brooke (SA) to deliver Mother Teresa Catholic Primary School, a state-of-the-art facility in Zuccoli, Palmerston. Dave and the Bennett Design team were committed to understanding the brief and collaborated effectively, combining current educational needs with flexible learning environments for both students and staff. Catholic Education NT is indeed excited to have this multi-award winning building as part of its local school infrastructure to facilitate primary education in Zuccoli, Palmerston.”

“Bennett Architecture have been involved in providing architectural and supervision services during the recent $800,000 refurbishment of the National Archives of Australia, Darwin office. They proved themselves diligent and competent while delivering consultancy services across a wide range of disciplines, which resulted in a very successful project. I would not hesitate to recommend Bennett Architecture in providing similar services for other clients, be they in the public or private sector.”

“I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank Bennett Architecture for their role in Stage 1 of the Ben Hammond Complex Redevelopment. The professionalism and commitment shown by Bennett Design assisted Power and Water in being able to achieve a high quality outcome on what was a difficult and complex project. The team spirit developed and fostered throughout the project is a testament to the willingness and capability of all the key personnel to work together to overcome issues as and when they occurred. I consider the project to be an outstanding success, which is a sentiment echoed by the Directors, Management and staff of Power and Water. As a result of Bennett Architecture ís commitment to quality, the staff at the Ben Hammond Complex are now able to enjoy the benefits of a vastly improved work environment, via buildings which are safe, functional, aesthetically pleasing, and environmentally sustainable.”

“I am writing to acknowledge your company's success at the National Building Designers Awards held in April 2004. Sincerest congratulations are to be afforded to you and your team for awards in the categories of 'Public Buildings' and 'Environmental and Energy Efficient Buildings'', for the design of the $1.1M Kids Force Kindergarten and Preschool facility constructed at the RAAF Darwin Married Quarters Precinct. The dedication and commitment shown in your provision of consultancy services in the development of the design with such a diverse user group, is a testament to your professionalism and attention to detail. The project demanded a wide appreciation of engineering disciplines, statutory requirements and user specific issues that were successfully incorporated into the delivery of an excellent facility. Your efficient and innovative design will provide ongoing cost savings for Defence and a user-friendly facility for the children of our Defence Members. I would not hesitate to recommend Bennett Design Pty Ltd, to provide similar services for other clients, either in the public or private sector. On behalf of the Department of Defence, I congratulate you and your company for this outstanding achievement.”

“We engaged Bennett Architecture to assist in a greenfield development in Darwin and following the success of that project, using them again for Edinburgh, SA was an easy decision. Bennett’s were involved in all aspects of the Edinburgh development – from early concept discussions right through to design changes during construction and the final fit out of the completed development. We were handed over a development that was on time, on budget and 100% fit for purpose. Haulmark has several large projects in development over coming years and Bennett’s will be used for each of these.”
