Project Story
Bennett Architecture collaborated with Rossi Architects and Walter Brooke & Associates to design and deliver Mother Teresa Catholic Primary School in Palmerston, Northern Territory. Located on a greenfield site in Zuccoli Stage 4, the school serves students from Early Learning through to Grade 7 and forms part of a unique precinct that integrates a Catholic Primary School and an NT Government school with shared facilities.
The architectural vision focused on creating flexible, open-plan learning environments that foster engagement, adaptability, and a strong sense of community. Interiors are light-filled and welcoming, supporting contemporary teaching practices and encouraging creativity and collaboration among students and staff. Complementing this, the landscape design introduces shaded outdoor classrooms, play spaces, and green zones that promote exploration and physical activity.
Delivered within a challenging six-month design and documentation timeframe, the project exemplifies effective collaboration between architects, consultants, and stakeholders. Extensive master planning and stakeholder engagement—including regular client meetings, group consultations, and 3D walkthroughs—ensured clarity of vision and alignment with educational objectives.
Distinctive design features include building forms inspired by aviation, reflecting the legacy of Guido Zuccoli, the suburb’s namesake aviator. The campus layout creates a clear educational pathway from Early Learning through Upper Primary, with generous, adaptable General Learning Areas (GLAs) that connect to shared spaces and outdoor teaching zones. Staff amenities are centrally located to encourage collaboration, while classrooms are streamlined to support flexible programming.
Mother Teresa Catholic Primary School is now recognised as one of the region’s most sought-after educational facilities, celebrated for its innovative curriculum, outstanding amenities, and strong community connection. Bennett Architecture is proud to have delivered a project that combines cultural relevance, functional excellence, and a future-focused approach to learning.
