Architect Dave Bennett and his team are celebrating 25 years of designing carefully considered, sustainable, award-winning work throughout Australia. Previously Bennett Design, Bennett Architecture is a Darwin based company which now provides services nationally with smaller offices in Adelaide, Cairns, Melbourne and Northern NSW.
Starting an architectural practice in Darwin had many advantages, including an extensive portfolio of projects. It gave us the experience, capability and confidence to diversify our scope and involvement in architecture, designing different projects in all environments and typologies while being seen as a ‘safe pair of hands’.
Our clients have entrusted us with a broad range of projects including Northern Territory’s Youth Justice Centres, site redevelopments at RAAF Base Tindal and national facilities for Haulmark.
In the emerging agricultural sector, we delivered an industrial sized aquaponics glasshouse based on emerging technology at the University of Sydney. Following project completion, this sector has been growing rapidly and we have delivered a similar facility in China and currently developing several large agricultural sites to grow medicinal marijuana.
Bennett Architecture is looking forward to the interesting opportunities and challenges in the coming years.

RAAF BASE TINDAL STAGE 6, NORTHERN TERRITORY
Part of a larger upgrade, the $870 million upgrade includes a building program to prepare for fighters and tanker transport. The runway upgrade will accept larger U.S military aircraft and supply transport as well as a new air movement terminal, new aircraft apron, new fuel farm and associated infrastructure works.
YOUTH JUSTICE CENTRES, DARWIN & ALICE SPRINGS
The new facilities will be progressive and the government said they will have a focus on culture and relationships between family and community with the aim of “breaking the cycle of crime”. The new facility in Darwin will feature secure, cottage-style accommodation for thirty young people and is expected to be built by July 2020 with a similar facility also being concurrently planned for Alice Springs.
ROOM TO BREATHE PROGRAM, VARIOUS LOCATIONS, NORTHERN TERRITORY
Bennett Architecture is delivering the Room To Breathe program, with housing in remote communities receiving upgrades to living spaces and infrastructure of existing homes based on engagement meetings with residents.
HAULMARK TRAILER FACILITY, QUEENSLAND
Being the third site that Bennett Architecture has designed for Haulmark, this new facility will support both defence and commercial customers with new trailers fabricated in conjunction with providing whole-of-life repair and maintenance services.
CANNATREK MEDICINAL FACILITY, VICTORIA
Scheduled to be in production by 2020, this is the largest medicinal cannabis greenhouse project of its kind in Australia to date with plans to invest over $30 million during phase one and employ over two hundred people within five years.
