The Youth Justice Darwin facility, designed by Bennett Architecture, was developed through a collaborative and consultative design process with the Northern Territory Department of Territory Families, Housing and Communities and the Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics. The facility was designed to prioritise safety, rehabilitation, and culturally responsive environments for young people in the justice system. Bennett Architecture worked closely with stakeholders to ensure the design integrated trauma-informed principles, secure yet humane spatial planning, and dedicated areas for education, recreation, and family connection. Feedback from the departments highlighted the success of the design in creating a respectful and functional environment that supports positive behavioural outcomes. The completed facility has been recognised for setting a new benchmark in youth justice design in the Northern Territory.
