Project Story
Bennett Architecture was engaged as the lead consultant for the design and delivery of the new Ngukurr Police Station, responding to the Northern Territory and Australian Government’s commitment to strengthening police presence in remote communities. Drawing on extensive experience in remote justice infrastructure, Bennett Architecture delivered a design that balances robust security requirements with the need for a humane and community-focused environment. The project includes a new police station with integrated multi-agency offices, custodial cells, courthouse and social spaces and supporting facilities. To support permanent and visiting staff, the complex also includes three new four-bedroom homes and four visiting officer quarters, ensuring functionality and comfort for personnel on-site. The design incorporates principles of place-making to ensure the facility is appropriately scaled, culturally sensitive, and integrated into the local community context. Emphasis was placed on creating a secure yet welcoming environment that supports engagement, safety, and wellbeing for both officers and the public. Bennett Architecture’s deep understanding of correctional and civic infrastructure in remote regions was central to achieving a high-quality, context-responsive outcome for Ngukurr.
